Hawaii is a special place -- a place that offers exciting economic opportunities, multi-cultural diversity and unmatched beauty. It is home to a thriving and dynamic economy based on a new information and high technology industry. This robust industry has made Hawaii the information and economic crossroads of the Pacific.

Serving as the foundation and inspiration of this industry are the University of Hawaii, now a world-class institution. The University provides seamless, statewide access to top tier programs in super computers, simultaneous translations, biotechnology, and ocean and earth sciences.

Our children learn in an exceptional public school system where students master skills to be lifelong learners and critical thinkers in the classroom and beyond.

Government works in a different way. It is accessible and responsive to the needs of its people. It has guided Hawaii into a new era of growth while preserving and celebrating its multicultural diversity and natural beauty.

In the year 2010, Hawaii continues to be that special place. It will be home for our children and future generations to come.

Here, I've outlined some goals that I hope to accomplish. I believe that we can truly make a difference. Please join me as we work together:

- to improve the quality of life in Hawaii by having the information and high technology industry create and establish a vibrant and dynamic economic base with high-wage, high-skilled jobs; long-term economic growth and stability for our community; and Hawaii as the information center of the Pacific;

- to establish Aiea/Pearl City as the model community -- caring and committed individuals working for a better community;

- to create a world class University of Hawaii that provides a statewide access to top tier programs in super computers, simultaneous translations, biotechnology, and ocean and earth sciences;

- to create a public school system that prepares students to be active and dynamic citizens of the 21st century. The system will be one that embraces, rewards and challenges the individual student in his/her effort to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers in the classroom and beyond;

- to reinvent government and its role in our community so that government becomes more productive and more responsive to the needs of all the people of Hawaii.

- to celebrate Hawaii's multicultural diversity by appreciating and understanding the needs, beliefs and hopes of all who call Hawaii home; and

-to preserve, cherish and respect the beauty of Hawaii's environment so it can be enjoyed by future generations.
