More Reasons to Worry About the Akaka Bill
A Message from Dick Rowland

Dick RowlandA few months ago, I had a conversation with Barb Lindsay, head of the national organization, "One Nation United." During our talk, I learned how Indian tribal businesses were competing unfairly with other U.S. businesses. I asked where such apparent injustices were occurring, and was referred to the National Association of Convenience Stores. They had published an essay on the problem as it might relate to Hawaii and the proposed Akaka Bill. The result is below, and indeed presents cause for concern and careful thought. It also begs for those all over the nation who might be victims of those who are taking advantage of existing Indian policy to speak up and let us know what is happening. Our blog is available (http://historymystery.grassrootinstitute.org/) or send me an e-mail at dick@grassrootinstitute.org.

Our special thanks to Lyle Beckwith and Barb Lindsay for their fine work.

As always, we present these thoughts in pursuit of better education of the public. We want free and open discussion.

FRESH PERSPECTIVE

Private Companies Would Stamp out the Post Office
By Christina M. Kohn

At 41 cents per stamp, paying a bill, sending a birthday card or keeping in touch with a pen pal can be pretty expensive. Postal fees continue to rise, but deliveries aren’t faster, mail isn’t safer and the lines at the Post Office don’t get any shorter. All this leads one to ask, "How can such an inefficient company stay in business?"
