Barun Mitra

Barun MitraBarun Mitra is a founder and director of the Liberty Institute, a non-profit, independent public-policy research and educational organization based in New Delhi, India.  The Liberty Institute develops market-based responses to contemporary social, economic and environmental issues to promote awareness of the institutional pillars if a free society-individual rights, the rule of law, limited government and free markets.

Mitra's writings on the environment, trade and technology issues have appeared in books, magazines and a broad range of national and international newspapers. He also edited a volume in honor of the late Julian Simon, Population: The Ultimate Resource, which was awarded the 2001 Sir Anthony Fisher Memorial International Prize for best book from a new think tank. 

Prior to founding the Liberty Institute, Mitra was a freelance journalist.  He holds an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and a post-graduate degree in Marine engineering.
