Join Us in Celebrating a Legacy of Freedom!

A Luncheon Celebration in Honor of Milton Friedman’s 96th Birthday
Card Room, Pacific Club
July 31, 2008
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

July 31, 2008 would have been Milton Friedman’s 96th birthday. To honor his vision and the impact he has had on our society, we are bringing people together to discuss ideas that were dear to him—individual liberties, free markets, and school choice.

Gail Heriot will be the main speaker at the Hawaii event, speaking on the topic “Milton Friedman:  The Man Who Chose Freedom.”  Lunch will be a deli luncheon buffet with sandwiches, salads, cookies and iced tea. A few seats remain. Call Pearl at the GRIH office immediately (591-9193) if you would like to purchase a seat. You must register in advance. No walk-ins.

Gail Heriot is a member of the United States Commission on Civil Rights and a Professor of Law at the University of San Diego.  Her work has appeared in legal journals like the Michigan Law Review, the Virginia Law Review and the Harvard Journal on Legislation.  She also frequently writes for popular newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, the National Review, the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union Tribune.  She is the editor and an author of a forthcoming anthology of essays entitled California Dreaming:  Race, Gender, Proposition 209 and the Principle of Non-Discrimination

Prior to entering academia, she practiced law at the Washington law firm of Hogan & Hartson and the Chicago law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt.  She clerked for the Honorable Seymour F. Simon of the Illinois Supreme Court.

Professor Heriot graduated with highest distinction from Northwestern University in 1978, and earned her J.D. cum laude in 1981 from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as an associate editor of the law review. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.
