Jones Act

The negative economic affects of the Jones Act are well-documented, and it is the non-contiguous states and territories (such as Hawaii , Puerto Rico and Guam ) that suffer the most from its cabotage (cargo shipping) restrictions. This protectionist legislation increases the cost of living, raises the price of doing business in Hawaii, and represents a constant drain on our economy. The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii supports Jones Act reform that would address the disproportionate effect of the Act's shipbuilding and cabotage restrictions.
