HPU Speaker Series

As part of its 2008 Speakers Series, Associated Students of Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) is hosting Dr. Tim Kane, Ph. D., and State Representative Matt Wingard (R-OR) on Tuesday, November 18th from 5 to 6 PM at the HPU downtown campus at 1164 Bishop Street, Room UB122-B, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The topic of the evening's talk will be, "Is Individual Freedom Fading in America With Each Passing Decade?" The event is co-sponsored by Professor Ken Schoolland, the Entrepreneurship Center and The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.

Dr. Kane is a leading scholar on economic policy issues at The Heritage Foundation. Before becoming a Heritage Fellow in October 2007, Kane was Director at CITE, where he was the lead editor and author of the annual Index of Economic Freedom, one of Heritage's most prestigious publications, which is co-published by The Wall Street Journal. As Director, Kane oversaw a major redesign of the Index in 2007, which made it more user-friendly and more objectively data-driven in its analysis of economic freedom in 157 economies worldwide.

State Rep. Matt Wingard is the Program Director for the School Choice Project at the Cascade Policy Institute. A non-profit, non-partisan free-market public policy research organization based in Portland, Oregon the Cascade Policy Institute focuses on state and local issues. The institute, founded in January 1991, seeks to "explore and advance public policy alternatives that foster individual liberty, personal responsibility, and economic opportunity."
