Akina hosts Jay Fidell on “E Hana Kakou”

In Keli’i Akina’s recent interview of Jay Fidell, founder and president of ThinkTech Hawaii, Fidell argues that the reason things are the way they are in Hawaii can be summed up in the phrase “Shikata Ga Nai!”

This traditional Japanese expression, meaning “It can’t be helped,” expresses the attitude Fidell finds pervasive among the people of Hawaii.  Whether it’s the traffic, under-development of technology, economic woes, or government-sponsored boondoggles, Fidell asserts that complacency and hopelessness underscore the lack of significant economic progress in Hawaii.  Watch the entire interview below.
