In this episode of E Hana Kakou, Grassroot President Keli’i Akina interviews Emil Svrcina, a research scientist at the University of Hawaii. Mr. Svrcina’s story is a fascinating one, beginning with his experiences growing up in Communist Czechoslovakia. After his dramatic escape from that country and his journey to the U.S., Mr. Svrcina went on to be an American success story, and is now a computer scientist researching ways to treat and cure cancer. His experiences have given him a unique perspective on politics, government, and the meaning of freedom, and he shares these hard-won insights with Dr. Akina in an discussion that ranges from the Communist experience to the current health care debate.
