Why Darrah Yamamoto left Hawaii

“I’m a local girl, Native Hawaiian, born and raised in Kaneohe. My husband got sick and couldn’t work anymore, so we decided to leave because the cost of living on one income is definitely not easy. I relocated with my husband to Arizona in March 2018. We chose Arizona because there is a transplant facility here.

“I don’t regret leaving home at all. There are more of our friends friends and family leaving Hawaii due to the cost of living.”

To the Hawaii Legislature:

Hawaii families face skyrocketing healthcare costs and a shortage of doctors. Exempting medical services from Hawaii’s general excise tax would result in millions of dollars in savings for residents and help bring doctors back.
