Why Jania Hoover left Hawaii

“I moved to Hawaii when I was in fourth grade. I lived there until I graduated from Radford High School. I left Hawaii to attend college in Los Angeles and I never returned because the cost of living is too high. I love Hawaii and it will always be home. My parents still live there. There is no place like it! However, as a teacher, I would never make enough money there to live the lifestyle I enjoy.”

Dallas, Texas
Former resident of Honolulu

Hawaii families face skyrocketing healthcare costs and a shortage of doctors. Exempting medical services from Hawaii’s general excise tax would result in millions of dollars in savings for residents and help bring doctors back.
