‘I don’t believe we could ever afford to live there again’: Why Kirk French left Hawaii

We lived in Waimanalo for over 20 years and even with two incomes, we were never able to get ahead. We still have family there. My two youngest sons were born at Castle Hospital and they miss the Windward side terribly.

I don’t believe we could ever afford to live there again. Maybe if they’d ever get the political situation and the crime problem under control, we’d think about finding a way. As it is, paying $2 for a gallon of milk and $2.50 a gallon for gas, North Carolina seems to be the place to be. We miss Hawaii though.
