RE: Bill 6 (2025) — RELATING TO STRUCTURES

Aloha Chair Cordero, Vice-Chair Okimoto and other members of the Committee,

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii supports Bill 6 (2025), which would repeal references in the city code to telephone booths in public spaces.

Because telephone booths are now uncommon — if they have not disappeared entirely yet from the streets of Honolulu — it no longer makes sense for the city code to apply regulations to their placement in public spaces.

Grassroot appreciates the intent of this measure and would welcome further Council actions to repeal outdated and redundant portions of the city code.

Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
