RE: Bill 6 (2025), CD2 — RELATING TO STRUCTURES

Aloha Chair Waters, Vice Chair Weyer and other members of the Council,

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii supports Bill 6 (2025), CD2, which would repeal references in the city code to telephone booths, freight chutes and freight elevators and amend its rules for curbside tellers.

Because telephone booths, freight chutes and freight elevators are now uncommon — if they have not disappeared entirely yet from the streets of Honolulu — it no longer makes sense for the city code to apply regulations to their placement in or near public spaces.

Grassroot appreciates the intent of this measure and would welcome further Council actions to repeal outdated and redundant portions of the city code.

Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
