A fund established to honor institute founder Richard “Dick” Rowland, the Advancement of Individual Liberty Fund, is offering to match donations to the institute up to $5,000 each from any first-time donor or anyone who has not contributed since 2018.
Rowland died Nov. 28, 2020, at the age of 90. A former life insurance executive and colonel in the U.S. Army, he founded the institute in 2001 with the goal of promoting in Hawaii individual liberty, economic freedom and accountable government.
He was leery of all government programs, regardless of how well-intended they might have been. He was a firm believer in the Declaration of Independence and often warned: “The bigger government gets, the smaller you get.”
